Today is currently August 13. The fact that I have not seen an NFL game in half a year is simply appalling. That dry spell will end soon for me, as the Cowboys will look for a win in its usual preseason showdown against the born-again Los Angeles Rams. But, this shouldn’t be the case. Why have we had to be patient for so long? In a statement put out by the NFLPA and NFL, “Due to safety concerns with the condition of the playing surface in Canton, tonight’s game between the Indianapolis Colts and Green Bay Packers has been cancelled.” To be honest, I believe that the NFL made the right decision in cancelling the game. Never mind that it sounds like an excuse, the fact that the paint began to get slick shows that the league at least tries to pay attention to the safety of its players. After the cancellation was announced, news quickly broke highlighting the loss of $5 million. Lawsuits have been filed, which may very well increase the number. Despite the stories, football is still only moments away. This only marks the beginning of what looks to be an interesting season.
