Texas will see another Olympian in 19-year-old Spring, TX native Simone Biles. Just three years ago she dashed onto the scene, winning the all-around gold medal in the World Championship. Coming from a broken home, Simone was raised by her grandparents, Ronald and Nellie. A chance encounter on a field trip introduced her to gymnastics. Thirteen years later, she is a 3-time world champion (in three consecutive years), 3-time US champion (in three consecutive years), and 11-time medalist (a world record). Her amazing flexibility is matched by her incredible strength. She has been a favorite to win gold during the Olympics prior to making the team, garnering plenty of pressure during her stay in Rio. After her career ends, Biles is poised to be not only one of the greatest US women’s gymnasts, but greatest women’s gymnasts, overall.
