To say at the very least, the Texas Rangers have gotten off to a glacial start. As of today (4/19/17) the team has a rough record of 5-10. This awful misfortune has come from a variety of places. The most glaring issue of them all has been the often lackadaisical work from the pitching staff. Yu Darvish and Cole Hamels have been putting up pretty good starts, however, they have not yet shown that they are of the same caliber years’ past.
Surprisingly, the bullpen has been relatively mediocre. It is the issue of closing out games that have plagued this team, sadly enough. Sam Dyson’s stint as the closer came to an end–at least for the moment–following his third blown save of the season in three chances. The group of players who have worked as closers has converted a total of one save opportunity. It’ll be interesting to see how skipper Jeff Banister utilizes his men in the coming weeks. He and his club are never ones to bow down their heads when faced with adversity.
